Zagreb County Institute of Public Health - Associated Partner

In the period March-June 2011, team of ZPH conducted case –study of best practices in two Croatian firms. During September-October 2011 we plan to create pilot intervention based on the studies of project’ partners. Meanwhile, we will establish contact at 5 workplaces which will take place in the intervention activities. Before the end of the year we will start with pilot interventions.

Case 1. Petrokemija d.d. is a firm with 2346 employees. The main products of the company are: mineral fertilizers, carbon black, clay – based products, betonites and additives for foundries, cattle feed additives, pet litter, cleaning products, maintenance, engineering, mechanical engineering services, electro services, measurement and regulation technology. Systemic treatment of alcoholism and prevention of alcohol induced disorders in Petrokemija started in year 1974. It was noticed that this social and health problem is not possible to resolve or prevent without active work from club of alcoholics in treatment as the way of self-help and under guidance from professional therapist so the first club was then founded.

Case 2. BADEL 1862 Wines, Spirits & Soft Drinks PLC is a company with 570 employees. The main products of the company are wines, spirits and soft drinks. Due to specific products employing body makes significant efforts for prevention and health education so the risks from alcohol consumption at workplace could be decreased. In that direction, according to the law, consummation of alcohol is forbidden at workplace.

Due to work safety, prevention of work related injuries, in purpose of workers health protection and protection of company’s material assets, zero alcohol tolerance applies. During period of last 8 years ad Program is active, planned reduction of positive alcohol test results is accomplished and brought to acceptable frames.
