Mariann Skar is one of the public health experts featuring in this ARTE documentary that shows Europeans as the world champions in alcohol consumption, including 23 million citizens addicted, and 195 thousand deaths each year.


New EU project on alcohol, nutrition and physical activity

HEPP – Maintaining a focus on health inequalities

This pilot project will contribute to maintaining an EU and Member State focus on health inequalities and help to mainstream measures to address them. The project will have a particular focus on alcohol, nutrition and physical activity, related to the socio-economic gradient and disadvantaged areas.


France: Ministry of Health is concerned by controversial TV cookery programme

The French Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has requested the producers of Les Recettes Pompettes (The tipsy Recipes) to have the show cancelled. In the programme, the presenter, with the help of a celebrity guest, prepares food while they consume a large number of alcohol shots.

Finland and Sweden – biggest Nanny States in European Union

Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) along with the European Policy Information Centre published the so called Nanny State Index last week that puts Finland and Sweden in top defining these Nordic countries as the “worst places in the European Union to eat, drink, smoke and vape.”


Commission publishes EU road safety statistics for 2015

The 2015 road safety statistics published today by the European Commission confirm that European roads remain the safest in the world despite a recent slowdown in reducing road fatalities. 26,000 people lost their lives on EU roads last year, 5, 500 fewer than in 2010.
