European Expert Meeting: How do guidelines on low-risk drinking fit in the framework of public-health policy to reduce alcohol-related harm (RARHA)?

An expert meeting on reducing alcohol related harm took place on the 17th February at the Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Helsinki, Finland. The target audience was RARHA partners and members of the EU Committee on National Alcohol Policy and Action.

Finland: a preliminary proposal on a reform of Alcohol Act to the ministerial group

Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Juha Rehula presented his preliminary proposal on an overall revision of Alhohol Act at the meeting of the ministerial working group on promotion of health and wellbeing. The meeting was held on Thursday, 11 February. The Government aims to update the obsolete alcohol legislation and to submit their proposal to Parliament in the early summer. The proposal will be sent on a consultation round as soon as possible.


House of Lords asking for more from the EU

The House of Lords UK discussed the EU Alcohol Strategy and the UK Government’s position in a debate in the Grand Committee, Wednesday 10 February 2016.


Scotland: SHAAP call for further action on alcohol availability and marketing to reduce alcohol-related harm

SHAAP (Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems) has written personally to all Members of the Scottish Parliament in advance of the 2016 Holyrood elections, laying out our ‘Top Twenty’ recommendations for action on alcohol. These recommendations mark our renewed commitment to work with partners to prevent and reduce alcohol- related harms.


Road safety campaigners meet Juncker to ask for EU serious injury reduction target
