92.9 % of Spanish students say that access to drugs is very easy

92.9 % of Spanish students say that access to drugs is very easy, according to a new study about students and drugs carried out by the Spanish university “Universidad Pablo de Olavide” in Seville

The university presented a study which shows that 92.9% of the students find the access to drugs easy. That the majority knows how to get access to drugs does not mean that the use of it is very widespread, at least not in the case of illegal drugs. The study shows that 11.6% of the students have used cannabis and 0.9% cocaine. The study makes it clear that legal products are the most commonly used; 62.8% reporting consuming alcohol and 22.9% smoking tobacco.

About alcohol consumption habits, the study revealed that,69,5% of the students surveyed take part in botellones[i], and that 31,5% does so once a week on average, 10,3% twice a week and 2% more that twice.

Even though 91.5% think there is a direct link between drug use and violent behaviour, the majority of the students do not support the illegalization of drugs. But 64.3% thinks there should be sanctions if using it in public, while 42.6% thinks it should be allowed for private use.

Yesterday the Spanish government made a commitment to fight drug trafficking in the rivers Barbate and Guadarranque, in the province of Cádiz.

[i]Botellón is a custom that takes place mainly in the Spanish nightlife, which involves the gathering of a large number of young people mostly between the ages of 16 and 24 outdoors to drink beverages previously acquired in shops (usually supermarkets), to listen to music and talk. This is often done because of the high prices in bars and being underage for bars and clubs.

The word botellón is an augmentative of botella (bottle) so the literal translation would be "big bottle".
