Awareness raising video about children of addicted parents
A powerful video describes the life of an 8 year old whose mother is addicted to alcohol as part of a campaign to help children of parents with substance use problems.
29 October 2012. VAD (Association for Alcohol and other Drug problems) has launched a campaign, targeting children of parents with an alcohol or drug problem. A gripping video shows a young girl, Femke, who takes over the responsibilities of her addicted mother.
This campaign encourages children of parents with an alcohol or drug problem to talk about their feelings and to look for information. These children are vulnerable. Talking about their situation strengthens them. In Flanders, several services such as De DrugLijn, Awel, Jongerenonthaal and In Petto are ready to listen to them. The DrugLijn also launches a chat-service for young people. The questions and stories these services receive will be monitored for the next six months. On the website of De DrugLijn children can also find information concerning the subject.
