Estonian Presidency alcohol policy conference

The Estonian Presidency hosted a conference on alcohol policy titled "Cross-Border Aspects in Alcohol Policy – Tackling Harmful Use of Alcohol".

The two-day conference, 30-31st October, attracted a host of speakers from the European Commission, OECD and WHO as well as those from academia, and the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

Jevgeni Ossinovski, Estonian Minister for Health and Labour, gave the conference's keynote speech, "Alcohol in the borderless world - challenges and opportunities".

Eurocare Secretary General, Mariann Skar, spoke about the need for proper labelling of alcoholic beverages.

Eurocare was well-represented at the conference, with Board Member Myriam Savy (ANPAA) giving a speech about the effectiveness of the 'Loi Evin', and speaking on a panel about the protection of young people from cross-border alcohol advertising.

Fiona Godfrey, Director of EU Public Affairs at the Europeaan Association for the Study of the Liver - a Eurocare Member - gave a speech on AVMSD and alcohol policy from an NGO perspective.

Sessions at the conference included: the labelling of alcoholic beverages; cross-border trade of alcohol; cross-border marketing; and monitoring and research.
