Latvia - Alcohol buyers under the age of 25 will be required to present Ids (20.6.13)
The Latvian Saeima has adopted some amendments to the Alcohol Circulation Law that aim at reducing alcohol consumption among young people.
Some of the new measures include;
- an obligation for people under 25 to produce their IDs when buying alcohol.
- alcoholic drinks, except beers with alcohol concentration under 5.8, will be required to be sold in separate departments starting January 1, 2014
- include information about the prohibition to sell alcohol to individuals under the age of 18 in advertisements.
Latvia is among the countries of the European Union where the consumption of alcohol among young people is one of the highest. Alcohol availability is considered high, and it has remained so over the past five years with no positive changes.
