Launch of MEP Digestive Health Group, 15 May, Brussels

Your health is your wealth, and knowing how to manage your digestive health is vital. Digestive diseases are responsible for around one million deaths each year in Europe across all ages and the rates of certain chronic digestive disorders are on the rise thanks to bad diets and ageing populations. Digestive diseases are lifelong (chronic) conditions resulting in loss of productivity and quality of life in Europe.

The MEP Digestive Health Group will be launched on 15 May and will focus on bringing digestive disorders to the forefront of the EU agenda. The event will be hosted by MEP Pavel Poc and MEP Nessa Childers at the European Parliament from 14:00-15:00 in Room A3H-1.

Medical experts will present the evidence-based scientific outlook on digestive diseases in Europe, while policy representatives from the European Commission and other leading political bodies will share their perspectives on what can be done at EU level to improve digestive health. Emphasis will be placed on the chronic nature of many digestive diseases and the burden that they place on society. A UEG white paper estimates that chronic digestive diseases reduce daily productivity by 26%, and cost EU employers €3 billion.
