Answer to written question on Provision of food information to consumers

Date published: April 27 2010

QUESTION by Graham Watson (ALDE): Subject: Provision of food information to consumers

When can we expect the Commission to introduce an amendment to remedy the technical omission of excluding cider and perry from the list of exempted alcoholic products from the need to list ingredients and provide nutritional labelling?

P‑2266/10EN Answer given by Mr Dalli on behalf of the Commission

The Commission acknowledges that the scope of the exemptions concerning alcoholic beverages in the Commission proposal on the provision of food information to consumers[1] should be further clarified in order to avoid discriminatory treatment of products that are genuinely competing on the market.

As the Honourable Member is aware, discussions are still on going at Council and Parliament level. The Commission will present an amended proposal to the Council and Parliament following the adoption of the report of the Parliament on the Commission's proposal.
