Presidency's progress Report on Provision of Food Information to Consumers
Brussels, 16 - 17 December. The French Presidency of the EU presented its progress report at the last Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council meeting.
This progress report reflects the state of play of the discussions at the Working Party on Foodstuffs on the proposal for a Regulation on the provision of food information to consumers.
On the exemption of alcoholic beverages, the report states that, according to discussions, it seems the Working Party wishes to treat competing alcoholic beverages in the same way.
However, it has not yet been agreed if they should be exempted, not exempted at all or at least made subject to one or some requirements, for instance an obligatory indication of energy content.
