Date published: December 4 2009
Please note that the question below will be answered by the European commission in writing within the next six weeks.
Question by Liam Aylward (ALDE) to the Commission
Given that the EU strategy to support Member States in reducing alcohol-related harm has been operational for a number of years, can the Commission comment on what measurable progress has been made regarding the priorities of the strategy, which include:
1. protecting young people, children and the unborn,
2. reducing injuries and deaths from alcohol-related road traffic accidents,
3. preventing alcohol-related harm among adults and reducing the negative impact on the workplace,
4. informing, educating and raising awareness regarding the impact of harmful and hazardous alcohol consumption, and regarding appropriate consumption patterns,
5. developing, supporting and maintaining a common evidence base.
In particular, what has been done to inform, educate and raise awareness among young people concerning the impact of harmful alcohol consumption?
