New industry report challenges negative perceptions of beer

23 June 2010. Concerned about a potential drop in sales as a result of an increased awareness among the UK public about harm caused by alcohol and the high calorific value of beer, the beer industry has launched a report to counteract "misconceptions that it is unhealthy, antisocial and fattening".

According to the report beer is a rich source of vitamins, fibre, minerals and antioxidants and it has a relatively low calorific value compared to many other alcoholic drinks.

According to the report in recent years general sales of beer have continued to decline due to the belief that wines, especially red, are healthy and "good for us‟. The report claims that, when drunk in moderation, beer is one of the healthiest alcoholic drinks available.
