The Social Cost of Alcohol: Passive drinking 02.02.2010
Over 120 people attended the Lunch Seminar organised by Eurocare in the European Parliament to discuss the harm to others as "The Cost of Alcohol: Passive drinking" on Tuesday 2nd February 2010.
Lunch meeting on FASD (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders) European Parliament - Strasbourg. 4 September 2007
To mark the International FASD Day (9 September) Eurocare organised, together with Dutch MEPs, Mr. Jules Maaten (ALDE) and Ms Dorette Corbey (PSE), a lunch meeting at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the 4th of September.
The aim of the meeting was to raise awareness among MEPs of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) as well as different policy options to curb its incidence
The speakers included:
- Dr Kieran O'Malley, a Doctor and a Psychiatrist from Ireland who has worked with FASD patients for 17 years and has researched and published extensively on FASD. View presentation
- Dr Nicolaas van der Lely, a paediatrician from the Netherlands who last year launched a multidisciplinary alcohol outpatient clinic for children with problems related to alcohol use.
Eurocare's Alcohol and Pregnancy Conference. 9/09/09, European Parliament
Over 100 people attended the Conference Eurocare held in the European Parliament to mark the ”International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Day” on Wednesday 9th September 2009.
Eurocare holds successful Evening Reception on ‘Alcohol and Pregnancy’ in European Parliament
Over 50 people attended the Eurocare Evening Reception in the European Parliament, marking ”International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Day” on Tuesday 9th September 2008.
Hosted by MEPs Ms Mairead McGuinness (EPP, IE) and Ms Catherine Stihler (PSE, UK), the reception was attended by a number of MEPs including Jules Maaten (ALDE, NL), Glenis Willmott (PSE, UK), Mary Lou McDonald (GUE, IE) among others.
The reception was also attended by a number of Eurocare member organisations as well as representatives of NGOs supporting the Eurocare "Alcohol and Pregnancy" campaign (European Public Health Alliance (EPHA), Confederation of Family Organisations (COFACE), Mental Health Europe, and the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME).
The reception was a unique opportunity to learn more about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, and discuss the different policy options to curb its incidence, notably, the labelling of alcoholic beverages.
Eurocare Seminar in the European Parliament: An Alcohol Strategy for Europe?
On 30 November, the Council of the Eu adopted its conclusion on the EU strategy to support Member States in combating alcohol related harm that the European Commission released on October 24th this year.
The EUROCARE Seminar brought together representatives from the Commission, the European Parliament, the WHO and the Public Health Community to analyse the virtues and shortcomings of the EU Alcohol Strategy and to discuss key questions, such as its implementation and follow-up.
