Alcohol and Health Forum
The European Commission's Alcohol and Health Forum is a multistakeholder platform bringing together 40 NGO’s and economic operators (alcohol producers, retailers, advertisers, and publishers) committed to voluntary actions to reduce alcohol related harm in Europe.
Background
The European Commission’s Alcohol and Health Forum constitutes the backbone of the Commission’s EU’s Alcohol Strategy.
A National Committee on Policy and Action, a structure separate to the Forum will further coordinate government driven policies at reducing alcohol related harm at national and local level, building on the examples of good practice identified in the Strategy.
Charter establishing the European Alcohol and Health Forum
Launched in June 2007 The European Commission’s Alcohol and Health Forum, is a multistakeholder platform bringing together over 40 NGO’s and economic operators (alcohol producers, retailers, advertisers, and publishers) pledging to take voluntary actions to reduce alcohol related harm in Europe. European Institutions, the World Health Organisation, and EU Member States, will participate as observers.
Aims and Objectives
The Mandate of the Alcohol and Health Forum is outlined in the Charter.
Plenary Meetings
Plenary Meetings are convened twice a year, and attended by all Forum Members.
The Forum is chaired by DG Sanco.
Open Forum
An 'Open Forum' is convened once a year in order to give interested non-member bodies and organisations, as well as press from the EU and beyond an occasion to follow the work of the Forum.
The first meeting will be held on Thursday 17 April 2008, in Brussels.
Science Group
A Science Group will be established by the Forum, and selected after an Open Call for Expressions of Interest.
At the request of participants, the Group provides scientific advice and guidance on matters under discussion in the Forum.
